Non-Immigrant Visas
If you want to change the purpose of your visit while in the United States, you must file a request with USCIS on the appropriate form before your authorized stay expires. For instance, if you arrived here as a tourist but want to become a student, you must submit an application to change your status. We recommend that you apply as soon as you determine that you need to change to a different nonimmigrant category.
Immigrant Visa Petitions
If you would like to become a permanent resident of the US and obtain your Green Card, an Immigrant Petition needs to be filed on your behalf by either your relative, your employer, or in some cases by yourself. Immigrant visa Petitions are Family-based Petitions and Employment-based petitions.

Naturalization is the process to become a U.S. citizen if you were born outside of the United States. If you meet certain requirements, you may become a U.S. citizen either at birth or after birth.
